Heads, Noses, and Fur
So, I’m working on Isaac Homebrew. I’ve never actually made my own fursuit head all by myself. I’ve always had help cutting and shaping the foam. Well, my help is not available in a economical fashion so I’ve had to stretch out and do the face molding myself. It’s pretty hard, but with some ingenuity and practice an electric knife can do anything!
Here was my first run(s) at a nose. It’s a short snout, so luckily I can cut it out of a 3.5″ by 3″ by 3″ block. I’ve made three so far, and all are not quite up to my par. Though, my first one is really good. I tried to make two more for practice and editing, but they didn’t come out as good as the first one. It’s like, when you don’t know what you’re doing you do it well, when you think you know what you are doing… you don’t. Story of my life.
I got this cheap fur from Joann’s. I was desperate to find faux fur locally. I was determined that dammit I live in the city I should be able to get whatever I want. Not so. The only fur I could find was this black fur from Joann’s that was medium length. It’s texture is horrible and worse, it falls out. Literally, it falls out just handling it. Don’t buy faux fur from Joann’s!
So I have left over fur from other projects. Some of varying length, all different colors. I have awesome green fur because I was going to make a Gary the Green Husky suit (he’s a pilot!) However, that plan has derailed a bit (though I have the vest and fur) Instead I’m making Isaac Homebrew. I was going to take a picture of all the furs and send it to my helper so she’d have an idea, but I didn’t send it. Here’s all the furs I have though.
Anyway. I don’t know how much rust colored fur I have left from Willy. I’m hoping we can get the same order, but I don’t know. The more I thought about it and looked at the color from Willy’s head, the more I think it’s the appropriate color. Unfortunately all of that fur is back at my childhood home so its status is unknown.
